The Jim Leach MasterCard Foundation Fellowship on Entrepreneurship gives African students and recent graduates access to training, resources, financial support, and a network of mentors to help them learn how to be entrepreneurs and start their own businesses. The 8-month program teaches leaders how to be great at business and how to think in a way that makes a positive social and financial impact.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Mastercard Foundation Fellowship is open to students and recent graduates from Africa.
  • All academic fields from any post-secondary school in Africa. We can help you whether you already have a business or want to start a new one.
  • We’re looking for people who want to learn how to think like an entrepreneur and use the resources we give them to help their organization grow. The program is hands-on and can be done at your own pace, but most people who are serious about it will work at least 10 hours a week. Participants will have to turn in their assignments online by strict deadlines in order to move forward in the program.
  • The content of the program is given in English. Help can be given in both English and French. Both assignments and pitches have to be done in English. Those who don’t speak or write English but want to be fellows are still encouraged to apply, and they will be paired with someone who can meet all the program requirements in English. Prospective fellows can work with their local university to come up with a plan to make sure they can use university resources to help them meet the language skills challenge.
